3D Solid Models

Virtual Prototypes - CATIAv5 and Solidworks are powerful design tool.  Any workable design can be electronically modeled using this software to represent actual hardware.  Models can be used to drive numerical control machines or create fully dimensioned drawings.  Additionally, the solid models can be "assembled inside the design program to create virtual assemblies.

Virtual mockups work! - Many automotive and aircraft companies used the 3D modeling technologies to fit check and test designs before any parts are built.  Solid models are also easily updated or changed as the design develops.

Since a solid model can be used to generate an STL file, manufacturing drawings and pictorial renderings of the solids are a good first step before creating a prototype or production design.  All three KTM prototype products are complimentary and are useful at different phases of the inventing process.

Key Benefits

  • Proof of Concepts (Virtually) - Quickly check fit of parts and construct complete assemblies without manufacturing any parts.
  • Product Mockups (Virtually) - Create mockups of your product within hours. It’s an efficient, cost-effective way to catch design flaws and make the appropriate adjustments early and often throughout the design process.
  • Product Cost Reduction (Virtually) - Reduce or avoid costs. A modest engineering change costing $100 in the Proof of Concept phase could escalate to a staggering $1,000,000 when the product is in the field.
